All Sport One Day, a free day of sport discovery, was on

Saturday, June 27, 2009

All Sport One Day provided 400 young Calgarians, ages 6-12, with an opportunity to discover a new sport for FREE at Canada Olympic Park and Cardel Place.

Outdoor Vertical Challenge

This is a race to the top! The Outdoor Vertical Challenge Course offers kids a unique and interactive way to develop and improve team performance through a series of outdoor sport-related activities. The course includes 3 high rope challenge pods that will keep you on your toes!

Outdoor Balance Challenge

Kids will get an opportunity to challenge their balance and build the introductory skills required to discover the sport of climbing. Kids learn to work together and safely navigate a giant 35-foot ladder, as the boards get smaller and farther apart the thrills get much bigger.

Geocaching (Orienteering)

Geocaching is an outdoor seek-and-find sport in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to discover containers called caches. Canada Olympic Park’s version will take kids throughout the Park to explore the grounds to discover the sport of orienteering.

Sport Climbing

Kids are natural climbers, and the sport of climbing is perfect way to learn some of the skills required to turn that natural ability into a fun sport that builds strength, problem solving and fearlessness.

Mountain Biking

This sport is awesome! If you want to learn to ride safely on dirt, you can get started on a mountain bike. Participants must be able to ride a bike, but no trail experience is necessary. All equipment including mountain bikes and helmets will be provided, however you are encouraged to bring your own bike and helmet. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY.

Roller Luge

Here’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance for kids to learn about the incredible sport of Luge — the equipment, rules and techniques. After learning the basics, each participant will get to experience the sport first-hand and take a ride on the Roller Luge on a specially-designed course.

Trampoline Aerials

Experience the adrenaline rush of bungee jumping — without the risks — as you perform gravity-defying maneuvers with this unique trampoline experience. Flip, spin and bounce while safely-harnessed in the Eurobungy and discover the basics of participating in aerial sports like trampoline, gymnastics, diving and even freestyle skiing.

Cricket

This sport goes all the way back to the middle ages! Cricket is a traditional English game that is gaining tremendous popularity throughout the world. Through fun and interactive games, you can learn the basics of batting, bowling & fielding. You may even discover what a ‘googly’ is!

Hap Ki Do

Hap Ki Do, combines the dynamics of kicking and punching with a vast array of throws designed to subdue or control an opponent. A diverse martial art form from Korea, Hap Ki Do strengthens and conditions the mind and body. It’s perfect for kids with a lot of energy and a love of wrestling and martial arts!

All Sport Challenge

Everyone has an “inner athlete” and this is the opportunity for kids to discover the young athlete inside of them! But they’ll need all of their energy for this run, jump, lift and play challenge.

Rock Climbing

For kids that love to climb all over the furniture, now they can try some real rock climbing. They’ll learn the fundamentals of climbing the basics of technique and proper knots and scale to new heights on our 30-foot wall!

Badminton

From the backyard barbeque to the badminton courts at Cardel Place, kids will learn the basic skills, techniques, and rules of badminton! We’ll emphasize fun, participation, etiquette, and hand/eye coordination with maybe a few smashes and drives thrown in for good luck!

Roller Hockey

Roller hockey combine Canada’s favourite game with the basics of inline skating. Kids will have fun, make new friends and develop their skating and shooting skills. With no body contact and no off-sides, kids will love this fast-paced, high-scoring game!

Kickboxing

Kids will learn the unstoppable roundhouse kick made famous in the movies but that just for starters. Controlled punching and kicking movements carried out with the discipline and skills required for martial arts will do wonders for confidence, balance and coordination.

Ice Skating

Whatever your level of skill, you can come and gain new confidence and skills on ice. Fun games will develop basic balance and coordination or help you develop glides, sculls and turns! If you’ve been waiting for an invitation to try ice skating, this is a safe opportunity to get started.

Summer Biathlon

Summer biathlon is a safe and fun introduction to the basics of this Olympic sport. With their adrenaline pumping, kids will safely learn the art of shooting with the goal of getting ready for a fun relay race with their teammates at the end of the session.
