Aikido


Aikido is a dynamic modern Japanese martial art created in the 20th century and based on centuries of martial training. Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba formulated a martial way that merges effective technique with a mind set on peace. The power of an attack is controlled and redirected, without direct confrontation, allowing a suitable technique to be applied. The intent is not to destroy an attacker but rather to extinguish the violence.

Archery


For every kid who has ever loved the story of Robin Hood, this is their dream sport. Archery will teach the skills of focus, aim and shooting straight for the bulls-eye. Weather permitting.

Badminton


From the backyard barbeque to the indoor courts, badminton is a sport that can be enjoyed in many settings. In this session, kids will learn the basic skills, techniques and rules of badminton. We'll emphasize participation, etiquette and hand-eye coordination, with maybe a few smashes and drives thrown in for fun.

Balance Challenge


With more than 24 different elements under three feet high, this ropes course is an excellent way to challenge participants mentally and physically. While traversing distance, using limited resources, the group's focus will challenge physical agility, balance and spatial awareness. By embracing cooperation, commitment, trust and problem-solving skills the participants will conquer the challenge. Weather permitting

Biathlon


Summer biathlon is a safe and fun introduction to the basics of this Olympic sport. With their adrenaline pumping, kids will safely learn the art of shooting, with the goal of running a fun relay race with their teammates at the end of the session. Weather permitting.

Broomball


Broomball is a recreational ice game originating in Canada and played around the world. It is played on a hockey rink, either indoors or outdoors. There are two teams, each consisting of six players: a goaltender and five others. The object of the game is to score more goals than your opponent. Goals are scored by hitting the ball into your opponent's net using your broom. Tactics and plays are similar to those used in ice hockey.

Climbing


Kids are natural climbers, and the sport of climbing is the perfect way to learn some of the skills required to turn that natural ability into a fun sport that builds strength, problem solving and fearlessness. Weather permitting at Canada Olympic Park.

Cricket


This sport goes all the way back to the middle ages. Cricket is a traditional English game that is gaining tremendous popularity throughout the world. Through fun and interactive games you can learn the basics of batting, bowling and fielding. You may even discover what a googly is. Weather permitting if outdoors.

Curling


Join us in learning some basics and come throw your first rock! Build from the basics of learning the throwing technique to understand shot strategy. Curling can be recreational or competitive and thrives on the social chemistry of team dynamics. Hurry Hard! Come sweep with us!

Mandatory equipment NOT provided includes:

- Helmets (Bike helmet are okay)
- Long pants and long sleeves
- Indoor running shoes

Dance Sport


Join our energetic dance instructor in groovin' across the dance floor. Get your body moovin'! Dance develops body awareness, balance, coordination, rhythm and creativity. No previous dance experience is required.

Fencing


Fencing is a great pick for all those action-packed kids out there! With their protective gear on, the kids will be ready to learn the basics of how to safely attack and counter-attack their partner.

Field Hockey


A World-renowned Olympic sport, with growing popularity in North America. Field Hockey is played by both male and females, is a dynamic game of technical skills and strategy. A great cross training sport for hockey, ringette and soccer. This session is held indoors

Floorball


Floorball is an excellent off-ice training sport for hockey players as you can practice your stickhandling, passing and shooting skills anywhere at any time. Hockey players will love the "feel" of the stick and will develop soft hands required to control the ball. You can practice your moves in the basement, at the rink or on the street. Teams can get together to play in a gym, outdoors or in the rink when the ice is out during the summer months.

Football


Has your child ever aspired to be a Calgary Stampeder like award winning Jon Cornish? If so, this introduction to football is a good start. Activities will involve learning to throw, receive and run with a football as well as speed and agility drills. Girls and boys are welcome.

Goalball


Goalball is a fast-paced Paralympic sport developed uniquely for blind and visually impaired athletes. Players rely on their sense of hearing and touch to track the ball containing bells on the court. The objective is to roll the ball past the defending team, who attempt to block the ball before it enters the goal. All players wear blindfolds and sighted players are encouraged to take part to challenge their senses.

Golf


Learn the basics of the sport of golf in a fun, relaxed environment. Specifically designed "kid sized" clubs will enhance the learning experience. Adult sized clubs are also available for taller children. Canadian Professional Golfers' Association (CPGA)  instructors teach the fundamentals of the swing and putt.

 On a mini golf course, putting technique will be taught. Practice time on sloped surfaces with obstacles will challenge participants as they apply what they have learned.

Gymnastics


The Kids Can Move program was developed to compliment the current school curriculum for gymnastics for Kindergarten to Grade 7 students. It promotes the development of movement and motor skills, in school aged children, to competently and confidently participate in any activity. This session, taught by certified instructors, will focus on Fundamental Movement Skills using some gymnastics equipment.

Hip Hop


Hip Hop is a great pick for all those kids who just can't stand still. This activity uses skills and muscles that are also developed through sport involvement. It is a funky style of dance that involves lots of popping and locking movements. It is a great way to use up some of that extra energy while developing confidence and coordination.

Judo


Judo is an Olympic sport that combines throwing and grappling techniques to make an exciting sport and a practical method of self defense. Mental and physical control of oneself is practiced in a safe setting.

Karate


Karate is known as a striking art. In this activity children will learn how to safely punch and kick. This will be a great chance to demonstrate the restraint, balance and control needed to properly execute the correct techniques.

Lacrosse


Did you know that Lacrosse is Canada's National Summer Sport? It is also a great sport that develops hand-eye coordination and fitness at the same time. It combines throwing and catching a ball with just a lacrosse stick. This is a great sport for kids who love to run and a good opportunity to learn some new skills.

Luge


Here is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for kids to learn about the incredible sport of Luge, the equipment, rules and techniques. After learning the basics, each participant will experience the sport first-hand and take a ride on the Roller Luge, on a specially-designed course. Weather permitting.

Mountain Biking


This sport is awesome if you want to learn to ride safely on dirt, you can get started on a mountain bike. Participants must be able to ride a bike but no trail experience is necessary. All equipment including mountain bikes and helmets will be provided, however you are encouraged to bring your own bike and helmet. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. Weather permitting.

Netball


Netball is popular European game that is gaining ground in Canada. It is played in a gymnasium and combines skills from basketball and team handball to score on the opposite team. This is a great chance for kids to try something new and learn some great team-building strategies.

Orienteering


Orienteering is a cross-country adventure sport, in which the participant uses a detailed map and sometimes a compass to help them navigate through the race course. The object is to run to a series of points, shown on the map, choosing routes both on and off trail, that will help you find all the points and get back to the finish in the shortest amount of time. Orienteering is a sport that combines running and navigation. Imagine a cross-country running race where everyone picks their own route. Kids will go throughout the park surrounding Talisman Centre to explore the grounds and to discover the sport of orienteering. Weather permitting.

Rhythmic Gymnastics


Rhythmic Gymnastics is an Olympic Sport involving a routine performed to music with manipulation of different apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. It requires extreme flexibility, balance, hand eye coordination, grace, and agility. Come out and try our recreational class and learn some new tricks with a ball, skipping rope, hoop, learn spirals, snakes, or circles with ribbons. Boys and girls are welcome in our classes.

Ringette


Ringette is an ice sport that involves a straight stick to shoot and pass a ring. This is a great chance to use some different equipment and learn some new techniques. It is a great sport for kids who love to skate and enjoy a fast-paced game. At All Sport One Day 2012 Ringette will take place on a Dry Pad, with the focus on stick handling and game basics. Participants should wear running shoes, there is no skating required.

Rope Skipping


At its highest level rope skipping combines elements of aerobics, synchronized dance, gymnastics and break-dancing all tied together with a jump rope. Skippers develop rhythm, strength, fitness, teamwork and have loads of fun while learning individual and team skills. Best of all, at a recreational level, you can practice almost anywhere! Skipping ropes are provided. Competitive skipping programs are available in Calgary.

Ski Jumping


Was your child fascinated with the ski jumpers at the Olympics? Then now is the perfect time to try out the unique sport of ski jumping, in a safe and controlled environment. Yes, ski jumping can be done in summer, with the specific equipment provided. Intermediate downhill skiing skills are required. Weather permitting.

Softball


This dynamic and strategic game develops skills including throwing, batting, catching and running. Softball is a team sport that depends on team co-operation to succeed. If you like to run, bat and throw, this is the sport for you! Come out and give it a try; join the team!

Special Olympics Sport Circuit


Special Olympics, Calgary will offer a morning and an afternoon circuit of sport activities for individuals with intellectual disabilities from 6 to 16 years of age. Unique to this acitivity is that participants register for the whole day (10 am to 2:15 am) rather than for a 45 minute sessions as for other All Sport One Day activites. Divisioning (beginner, novice, intermediate, advanced) will take place on-site.

The circuit will include the following sport activities:

Floor Curling                          Floor Hockey
Golf                                     Obstacle Course

Athletes should bring indoor running shoes, comfy clothing that allows for easy movement, a water bottle, a lunch and a smile!

Speed Skating


Speed skating takes racing on ice to new levels of excitement and fun. Whether you like to sprint or skate long distances, there is a discipline for you. Speed skates will be provided.

Intermediate skating skills are required, this is NOT a learn to skate session.

Mandatory equipment NOT provided includes:

- helmets (must be CSA approved hockey, snowboard/ski, skateboarding only. None of these CSA approved helmets listed can't have holes that a skate can penetrate. All helmets must be secured under the chin)
- leather gloves
- long pants and long sleeves
- shin guards.

Borrow what you don't have but don't miss out in this inaugural year of speed skating at All Sport One Day!

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY to allow time for skate fitting. If you are signing up for the 11:00 am session or the 1:30 pm session, we strongly recommend that you do not sign up for an activity in the timeslot immediately prior (10:00 am / 12:30 pm) Parents are expected to assist with skate fitting and tying. Volunteers will also assist.

Table Tennis


Table Tennis is a fast-paced sport played over short distances. As a non contact sport, the risk of injury is low. Players build strength, speed, quick reflexes, and hand-eye coordination. Table tennis is available year-round and is enjoyed in many settings from family gatherings to the Olympic Games.

Taekwondo


Taekwondo is an ancient Korean fighting practice. Roughly translated Taekwondo means "the art of kicking and punching". What distinguishes this martial art from others is its emphasis on powerful kicking techniques. In 1994, Taekwondo became accepted as a full medal sport for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Taekwondo is synonymous with discipline, self defence, spiritual growth, and moral development.

Tennis


A World-class sport in which you can choose, singles or doubles. You can be an individual athlete or a team competitor; everyone is welcome. Tennis is a racquet sport, which uses a yellow/green rubberized ball. This version will be played indoors with smaller nets, to encourage beginners to learn!

Touch Rugby


Touch Rugby is a great option for boys and girls with lots of energy. The sport  combines passing, catching and strategy to score on your opponent's team. This sport is a safe way to burn some steam and work together with your teammates.

Track & Field


Has your child ever dreamt about becoming the next Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, or maybe Perdita Felicien, Olympic hurdler? This session is a FUNdamentals program which teaches and develops the Fundamental Movement Skills of running, jumping and throwing; and the progressions for track and field events. It is designed for boys and girls ages 6-12 and can be adapted for special needs. It's fun, energetic, and kids love it!

Ultimate


Ultimate is played with a flying disc and is a fast-pasted, non-contact team sport the combines the throwing and catching skills of football with the non-stop, open field movement of soccer, and the stop/start offensive/defensive play of basketball. This is a great sport for all those kids who don't get tired!

Volleyball


Volleyball is a sport with many different forms, two of the most popular are Indoor Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. We will focus on indoor volleyball. An energy demanding sport which includes skills like bumping, spiking, blocking, setting, vertical jumping and quick sprint explosions. If you like to be part of a team and always want to be involved, this is the sport for you!

Water Polo


Water Polo provides the perfect balance of strength, flexibility and FUN for youngsters who love to be in water. It's a dynamic game played in various sized courts in a swimming pool. Water polo is an excellent way to develop strong swimming skills as well as hand-eye coordination and core strength. Players develop social skills in the team environment. Come on out and give it a try! Water polo may become your next passion!  Participants should feel comfortable in the water in general and floatation devices are able to be used. Every level of swimmer can participate and contribute! Swimsuits are not provided.

NOTE: For participants in the 12:30 session, do not register in an activity at 1:30 session as you will not be able to finish water polo, change and get to the 1:30 session on time.

For participants in the 1:30 session, we recommend that you don't register in a 12:30 activity so that you can be in your swim suit and on deck promptly at 1:30 for your water polo session.

Wheelchair Basketball


Wheelchair basketball uses the same rules as regular basketball with the exception of the double dribble (which does not exist). Participants in sessions learn how to use a sport wheelchair and learn the progressions and skills necessary for the wheelchair game. Chair skills and team skills are practiced in a variety of individual, game, and fun scenarios. Wheelchair basketball is a great sport for both disabled and able-bodied athletes.

Wushu (Kung Fu)


Modern wushu is divided into many different disciplines, including Taichi and Kungfu. It trains both Internal and External aspects. External training includes the hands, the eyes, the body and stances. Internal training includes the heart, the spirit, the mind, breathing and strength.
